James Wink was born in Oxford in 1953.  He studied at Winchester College and in London at the Architectural Association.
Throughout the 80ís and 90ís he provided light-industrial support to prominent architects and designers,  through modelmaking, prototyping and furniture making.

He also produced full-scale mock-ups and exhibition installations for museums and art galleries.
In 1989, his reconstruction from original drawings of the Leonardo da Vinci Flying Machine was exhibited at the Hayward Gallery, in London.

In 2000, James moved to the Lot in France, where he now designs and makes wood furniture, staircases and other installations to order.
